Kris Hunter – Youth Pastor

The mission of RISE Youth is to provide students with a safe place to grow in Christ and create authentic relationships with other students. Each week, the youth will dig into God’s Word and learn how it applies to the challenges they face in today’s culture. The students are given time to fellowship with their peers through games, snacks, or other outside planned events. Ages encouraged to attend are 6th grade-12th grade. Please come and bring your friends!

Kris was born and raised in Gillette, WY—1 of 6 boys in his family. He was active in football, soccer, and youth group during his high school years. He decided to pursue college football, playing one year at the University of Wyoming. He took a little detour and attended the Focus on the Family Institute in Colorado Springs. It was during this time that his passion for working with today’s youth was fueled. He decided to transfer to the University of Jamestown in North Dakota, where he continued playing football and received his bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. It was in Jamestown where he also met his wife Heidi, who had also transferred there to complete her bachelor’s in nursing. Following graduation, Kris worked as a correctional officer at the state prison for a short time before working as the Ministry Director for Youth for Christ and Youth Pastor at their local church. During this time, God helped equip Kris for reaching youth with the Gospel, a calling that he had always felt in his heart he would someday have. After 3 years of marriage, Heidi and Kris found out they were expecting their first child, so they decided to take a leap of faith and move back to Gillette to be closer to family. On August 21, 2014 they were blessed with the birth of their daughter Sydney Nevaeh Hunter. Then on January 19, 2017 they welcomed their second daughter, Sawyer Marie Hunter. Kris currently works as a police officer for Gillette Police Department along with being the Youth Pastor for Journey Church. Heidi is a RN for Campbell County Public Health. In their spare time they enjoy being outdoors, working out, doing house projects, and spending time with family and friends. Kris feels honored to be the Youth Pastor for Journey Church RISE.
